On Saturday 26th June 2021 Coventry Methodist Central Hall held a “Meet The Artists” event to showcase five artists who have been appointed to celebrate Coventry City of Culture 2021. Emilie, Emily, Mark, Nikki, and Seb all exhibited their work from the foyer of the Central Hall building, where Nikki showcased some of her enviro art to outside – where many passerbys were surprised with a musical flash mob from Seb and his Coventry Orchestra.
On Saturday @emilytylerartist bought along some of her beautiful art pieces which will be part of an exhibition later on this year Plenty of people stood by as they watched Emily draw or took some time to look at her work. If you look at Emily’s pieces you will be able to spot buildings like the Bull Yard, the newly built playground and our very own Central Hall. If you want a closer look and to keep up to date with her residency visit her Instagram @a_place_of_joy
People came along to Nikki’s table and were met with a selection of flowers and tree bark to take part in some #enviroart where she used these materials to make some kaleidoscope like images where you can have your name, or any message you wish written across. “Nikki has a background in illustrating and graphic design and currently enjoys working as a community artist, encouraging people to try things they’ve never tried before and to bring out the creative in everyone.
She’s really looking forward to running bookable and drop in sessions at Coventry Central Hall to introduce people to batik, as well as “EnviroArt” and other techniques, and bringing these pieces together to adorn some of the spaces in the building.”
If you went to Mark’s table you were greeted by all sorts of origami art. Using his knowledge he helped willing participants to make make different animals.
Mark writes, “I am – primarily – an illustrator & cartoonist. However, during lockdown I have somehow become somebody who makes things by folding paper. Origami has been a fantastic outlet for my creativity, and helped me get through what have been strange & difficult times.”

If you went over to poet @emilielaurenxx table she would ask you what is a place that’s special to you and would proceed to write a haiku about it (slide to see what that is). Many, including myself shared personal stories of why these locations are so special to us. Emilie captured these places so well in a couple of lines.
We were surprised with a musical flash mob from @coventryorchestra 🎺🎻🎷🥁 !!! Singers emerged from the crowd to sing “This is Me” & “Rhythm of Life” below is a video summarising the day wait until the end to get a taste of what we heard.
